Gradle Plugin Portal Terms of Use

Welcome to the Gradle Plugin Portal (the "Plugin Portal"), a software component repository operated by Gradle, Inc. ("Gradle," "we," "us," or "our") where developers can make their Gradle plugins' binaries, source bundles, and related materials available for download by users.

These Gradle Plugin Portal Terms of Use (these "Plugin Portal Terms") govern your access to and use of the Plugin Portal, including browsing, searching, downloading, and consuming plugins and other components made available through it, and — if you publish content to the Plugin Portal — your submission of that content. These Plugin Portal Terms apply specifically to the Plugin Portal and are separate from, and take precedence over, the general Gradle Terms of Use with respect to your use of the Plugin Portal. The general Gradle Terms of Use, our Privacy Policy, and our Copyright and Trademark Dispute Policy continue to apply to your use of Gradle's websites generally and to any dispute-resolution, arbitration, and privacy matters not addressed below, and are incorporated into these Plugin Portal Terms by reference for those purposes.

By accessing or using the Plugin Portal, you agree to be bound by these Plugin Portal Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Plugin Portal.

We may change these Plugin Portal Terms at any time. If we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the Plugin Portal after a change takes effect means you accept the change.

1. The Plugin Portal is a free community service

There is no charge to use the Plugin Portal, and Gradle pays the costs of hosting and bandwidth. We provide the Plugin Portal to the public as a service to the Gradle community, and we reserve the right to limit, suspend, or discontinue the Plugin Portal, or any plugin's availability on it, at any time and for any reason, including to protect the service from abuse.

2. Who publishes what — and who you're contracting with for it

  1. Third-party plugins. Most plugins on the Plugin Portal are authored and published by independent third-party developers, not by Gradle. Any plugin binary, source bundle, documentation, or other material submitted to the Plugin Portal by a publisher other than Gradle (a "User Submission") is licensed to you directly by the publisher of that User Submission, under the license terms that publisher has selected and made available with the User Submission (for example, an open-source license accompanying the plugin's source repository). Gradle is not a party to that license and makes no representations about its terms.
  2. Gradle-published plugins. Plugins that Gradle itself develops and publishes on the Plugin Portal ("Gradle Plugins") can be identified by the org.gradle or com.gradle prefix in their plugin and group identifiers:
    1. Gradle Plugins in the org.gradle namespace are licensed to you under the license terms and conditions found in the source repository of the respective plugin.
    2. Gradle Plugins in the com.gradle namespace are Gradle "Products" for purposes of the general Gradle Terms of Use, and your use of them is governed by that document (and, where applicable, the Gradle Software License Agreement or any separate agreement between you and Gradle).

3. Accessing and using the Plugin Portal

You may access the Plugin Portal to locate, download, and use the plugins and other components it contains, provided that you do not abuse the service. Without limiting the foregoing, you agree that you will not, in connection with the Plugin Portal:

  1. attempt to disrupt, overburden, or impair the Plugin Portal's infrastructure, including through excessive automated requests, scraping at a volume that degrades service for others, or any activity intended to circumvent rate limits or access controls;
  2. upload, publish, or distribute any User Submission that infringes the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party;
  3. upload, publish, or distribute malicious code, or any plugin whose primary purpose is to harm, exploit, or gain unauthorized access to users' systems;
  4. misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or impersonate another individual, project, or organization, in connection with a plugin or plugin namespace; or
  5. use the Plugin Portal in violation of applicable law, including export control and sanctions laws.

We reserve sole discretion to determine whether conduct violates these Plugin Portal Terms and to take action in response, including removing content, suspending or terminating publishing privileges, or restricting access to the Plugin Portal — with or without notice.

4. Publishing to the Plugin Portal

If you publish a plugin or other component to the Plugin Portal, you represent and warrant that:

  1. you own or have all rights necessary to publish the User Submission and to grant the license you designate for it;
  2. the User Submission, and the license you designate for it, do not infringe or violate any third party's intellectual property or other rights; and
  3. the metadata you provide (including plugin ID, group ID, and description) is accurate and not misleading as to authorship or origin.

You are solely responsible for your User Submissions and for keeping the license terms accompanying them accurate and up to date. Gradle has the right, but not the obligation, to review, and has sole discretion to accept, reject, or remove, any User Submission at any time, for any reason or no reason, including in response to a complaint alleging infringement (see our Copyright and Trademark Dispute Policy) or a violation of Section 3 above.

Publishing a com.gradle-namespaced plugin, or otherwise publishing on Gradle's behalf, additionally requires separate written authorization from Gradle.

5. No warranty; use at your own risk

THE PLUGIN PORTAL AND ALL PLUGINS, COMPONENTS, AND OTHER MATERIALS MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH IT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

Gradle does not review every User Submission for quality, safety, or fitness for any purpose. You bear all risk arising from downloading, installing, or executing any plugin or other component obtained through the Plugin Portal, including risk arising from User Submissions published by third parties. We encourage you to review a plugin's source, license, and publisher before use, particularly for plugins that request elevated build permissions or network access.

6. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GRADLE AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE PLUGIN PORTAL OR ANY PLUGIN OBTAINED THROUGH IT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. NOTHING IN THESE PLUGIN PORTAL TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.

7. Trademarks

"Gradle," "Develocity," "Build Scan," and the Gradlephant logo are registered trademarks of Gradle, Inc. Use of Gradle's trademarks in a plugin name, namespace, or listing must comply with the Gradle Technologies Trademark Usage Guidelines.

8. Relationship to Gradle's other terms

These Plugin Portal Terms govern your use of the Plugin Portal specifically. They do not replace, and should be read together with:

  1. the Gradle Terms of Use, which governs your use of Gradle's websites and Services generally, including matters such as dispute resolution, arbitration, and general conduct, to the extent not addressed above;
  2. the Gradle Privacy Policy, which governs how we handle personal information; and
  3. the Copyright and Trademark Dispute Policy, for reporting alleged infringement.

Where these Plugin Portal Terms and the general Gradle Terms of Use conflict with respect to your use of the Plugin Portal, these Plugin Portal Terms control.
