NOTICE: After I finish writing the Nysa–Polana complex article, I'll take a (maybe short?) break from Wikipedia. I got a lot of things to do outside of here.


I am an aspiring astronomer and planetary scientist, currently in my final year in my undergraduate astrophysics degree in college. I mainly specialize in minor planets, comets and moons, but I sometimes dabble in other stuff too. I intend to study asteroids, comets, trans-Neptunian objects, and irregular satellites in grad school, although I am not sure where to go, especially in the United States where the current climate isn't looking so great for planetary science...

I joined Wikipedia in February 2019 and made my first edits to Hippocamp, a Neptunian moon that just got named at the time. Now, my main activities on Wikipedia include expanding and completing articles up to Good Article (GA) status, keeping important lists (i.e. Moons of Jupiter) up to date, and creating new articles on new discoveries or other interesting astronomical objects. As of July 2026[update], I've written over 25 GA-rated articles, albeit most of these were written before 2020, when I was less experienced. These old GAs are now fairly outdated and I don't have the motivation to rewrite these unfortunately.
There are so many interesting planetary science articles that are poorly written and incomplete (like the minor moons of Saturn), and I wish I had more free time and energy to polish all of these up. But alas... I am a mere student and it is simply impossible to hold up the entirety of small Solar System body science myself.
Beyond this, I occasionally make typo corrections and small updates to minor planet and comet articles on Wikipedia. When I get bored enough, I turn to creating userboxes and decorating my user page. My custom userboxes are listed at User:Nrco0e/Userboxes; feel free to use them for your own user page!
I'm only active here intermittently and I may take long breaks from Wikipedia if I get burnt out. Do not expect me to immediately respond to talk page interaction or article maintenance here. I'm open to feedback about my actions, so please do let me know if I've made a mistake!
I adhere to the Wiki philosophy of being bold and ignoring the rules when necessary, though only if you actually know what you're doing (like if you have a degree related to it). If you're gonna add something within the lines of original research (that is not cruft nonsense), be really cautious—as long it clarifies the content more AND you have the proper sources to support and justify it.

What does my username mean?
[edit]It means nothing. When I was creating my Wikipedia account back in 2019, I was originally going to use my gaming username for my Wikipedia account. But it turned out that was already used, so I did a random keysmash of letters on the spot. "Nrco0e" was what I got from that, and I decided to keep that because why not. (so ingenious am I right?)
Why is your userpage so fancy?
[edit]Personally, I believe every site including Wikipedia needs a bit of personalized spicing. The Internet is too uniform and bland nowadays, and I'm tired of seeing the same old flat design everywhere. So, how about we bring back our beloved GeoCities/Myspace website aesthetic with some CSS magic?
How should I behave around you?
[edit]Please don't act like an annoying immature kid, a conspiracy nut, or a bigot. I'm also often busy outside of Wikipedia, so please be patient if I'm taking a while to respond. And of course, have some common sense and decency, and don't act like a jerk (unless you have a good reason... you better tell me then)
Lately I've noticed that there's a lot of preteen and young teenage editors trying to rewrite and add stuff to Wikipedia astronomy articles, but oftentimes they grossly misunderstand the source and end up writing nonsense with typically poor grammar. It's very tiring having to babysit and deal with such young people so regularly—on this website of all places.

To preface, I mainly write articles about natural things in the Solar System, especially on obscure asteroids, comets, and moons. No spaceflight and rockets, because that stuff really isn't my cup of tea, and preferably nothing about humans and politics, because that stuff is difficult to deal with and Wikipedia absolutely sucks when it comes to that kind of stuff. That aside, I find it super interesting to learn what else is out there in our celestial neighborhood, and what they're like! As fascinating as they are, there's unfortunately not a lot of places where you can easily read and learn about them. I remember when I was a young child, I used to wonder about all of the other moons of planets, but felt frustrated that I couldn't find any information about them anywhere. For example, there were no photos nor interesting facts about any of the lesser-known moons like Sinope and Sponde—not even books, NASA's website, or Wikipedia bothered to talk about them beyond a few sentences! So when I found out that I can search up papers for detailed information, dig through public (but obscure) data archives for images, and put them all on Wikipedia, I knew that I had to share this valuable information to the world. Nowadays the scene is a bit different, particularly on the modern Internet. People love learning about things in astronomy, but they most likely get their information from sensationalized social media posts and videos, which often exaggerate and cut details for the sake of views (*ahem* J1407b). Or perhaps, they may get it from some AI which may or may not overconfidently spew out some hallucinated garbage without giving a proper source. While it is still good that people are getting interested in astronomy despite the not-so-savory gateway, they may try seeking out additional resources to learn more. Suppose you're looking up a newly-discovered interstellar comet that's been recently been claimed to be aliens (*ahem* 3I/ATLAS). Googling typically brings up recent news articles as the first results, and each may have differing amounts of detail, sometimes conflicting with others (shouting "No, it's not aliens" vs. "SCIENTIST SAYS ALIENS ARE HEADING TOWARD EARTH"). Same thing goes for social media. While some headlines can be easily recognized as junk, it takes a lot of effort and energy to cross-check and process all these different articles and voices! Oftentimes, these articles pander to a general audience, so you won't be able to find certain details like the object's orbit, discovery circumstances, comparison to other objects, etc. And when newer stories come out, old news get forgotten and become hard to find. In another scenario, suppose you're looking up an obscure dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt. Most likely you'll get a bunch of really weird children-run Fandom articles with cartoon artwork at the top of the search results (yes, I'm calling out the Universe of the Universe and Solarballs Fanon wikis. Please get out of my results), with few databases and papers at the bottom. None of these are particularly helpful. "But what about searching for scientific papers?", you may ask. Problem is, the average person doesn't know how to read them, nor do they know that they should try looking for them in the first place. Whenever you search up a somewhat obscure astronomical object through some common search engine, you may find at least one paper near the bottom of the search results. Chances are, the average person wouldn't scroll all the way down there, nor would they bother to read it. Even worse, papers can be paywalled (screw Elsevier and Springer Nature!!!!). So unless there's someone else to disseminate these papers in a more understandable language, the average person is restricted to looking at social media or news reports whenever they want to learn about an astronomical object. Surely you want a singular, more centralized place that presents a record of whatever object you're searching for, with history, info, and everything documented about it without all the sensationalism and misinformation? If you're looking for "official" places for this purpose, there's databases like the NASA Exoplanet Archive (NEA), the JPL Small-Body Database (JPL SBDB), and many others. However, these don't appear at the top of search results and the layperson would not know that they're supposed to look for these in the first place. Sometimes, databases may be out of date and missing recent papers and conference abstracts—this is especially true for JPL SBDB and NASA's Eyes on Exoplanets. NASA has a "Solar System Exploration" website where it hosts a bunch of individual articles for many of the planets' moons, but they're often short and not very detailed (and for the more obscure moons like Despina, these articles are really outdated!). So what's another easily accessible place where you can find a centralized compilation of information? Well, the answer to that is Wikipedia. It's very popular and it serves the purpose of documenting mostly everything about a topic in a readable manner for a general audience. Almost all the time, Wikipedia comes as the first result whenever you look up an astronomical object through a common search engine like Google. A lot of news articles and sometimes even official organizations like the European Southern Observatory link to Wikipedia (here and here) when informing the reader about a space concept. AI/LLMs and the Google Search info panel often get their information from Wikipedia as well. Considering that more people are starting to rely on Google searches and AI/LLMs (that's bad IMO, but I digress), Wikipedia is unexpectedly becoming a backbone to people's acquisition of information, whether they know it or not. Since a lot of things are reliant on Wikipedia, I want it to at least be a decent hub of information and sources. It would be a place for people to learn about astronomical objects without all the sensationalism. Of course, that is very bold mission given that there's a countless number of things in space—it's impossible to manage that many articles! And yeah, I agree—I know it's futile, but it's gratifying to help out. And plus, you learn a lot of things when you do research for writing Wikipedia articles–which is why I enjoy writing them in the first place! It has really helped with developing my critical thinking and familiarity with astronomy papers. [edit] |

They usually turn out pretty similar (for example, making articles about different asteroids), with a few distinguishing subcategories (for example, that asteroid is in the main asteroid belt, while the other is a centaur). For fun, I like to keep track specific categories of topics I've dealt with.

☆ Wiki writing tips ☆

- Don't manually type out citations, use https://citer.toolforge.org/ to do it for you. It saves SO MUCH time. I wish I knew about this sooner...
- (from experience, manually writing and fixing citations has been the most demotivating part of editing. I've abandoned lots of articles because I got bored fixing their citations manually.)
- Write for the sake of explaining a genuinely interesting topic, not for a lengthy "good" article.
Word count ≠ quality—there's a reason why Wikipedia follows summary style! - Focus on clarity and conciseness, not length. What I did to 2018 VG18 is the epitome of how to not write a good Wikipedia article—it's too inflated with trivial and wordy details. (Maybe I should WP:BLOWITUP...)
- If you get stuck thinking about how to word a specific sentence, replace it with simple terms as a temporary placeholder, and then continue on with the rest of the paragraph. You can revisit that sentence later.
- You may use an AI/LLM to help or get ideas for how to phrase sentences, but please don't straight up copy whatever it writes. AI is a tool, not a replacement. So it shouldn't just write for you. It can get things wrong, so you must always fact-check and change its results.
- Note that LLMs often write in a very wordy, flowery, and promotional prose that exaggerates significance of the topic. Don't do this. It's distracting and violates WP:PUFFERY.
- Avoid unnecessary trivial details (i.e. listing out an asteroid's location, constellation, brightness, and speed at the time of discovery. Nobody needs to know that, nor would they care about it.)
- Organize your code and wikimarkup formatting consistently. I highly recommend using spaces to separate parameters for templates and tables, especially if they're large.
- Please please please put all your references in the
{{reflist|refs= }}under the References section and define each reference with a refname. I seriously can't stand editing when there's a huge mess of citation and ref templates in the way like this:This is an example.<ref>{{cite web|title=Example|url=example.com|date=2009-09-09|accessdate=2015-07-14}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|title=Example1|url=example.com|date=2005-04-20|accessdate=2019-01-01}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|title=Example3|url=example.com|date=2009-09-09|accessdate=2015-07-14}}</ref> - Copy and save your wiki draft to a .txt file. I cannot emphasize this enough—please save your work as you can easily lose progress in the website editor because of a dead battery, power outage, or accidentally closing the tab.
- Most importantly, just have fun and take breaks when you need to! If you're feeling stressed or feel like you have a nagging obligation to do things on Wikipedia (i.e. monitoring pages for vandalism, getting involved in debates and discussions, etc.), then it's best that you take a break, cool off, and touch some grass.
