Tools/Directory is a list of basic information about tools. See also https://toolhub.wikimedia.org/ .

Tools are classified into four groups:

A. Essential
They are essential to functioning of Commons. Alternatives do not exist or are highly inefficient. If anything breaks, Commons is paralysed.
B. Important
They are important, but Commons can still function if they are broken.
C. Special
Valuable specialised tools.
D. General

If you can help maintain a tool, please write down your name as an "active maintainer", so that other users can contact you in case the tool has issues.
