    The concluding line of this article says private industry can't do it all without public help. Why should the public let industry siphon off profitable bits so the public takes the unprofitable? Maybe don't have private insurance cover this at all.

    I've started to really dislike the phrase "double down" as an expression to really emphasise something. Doubling down is a gambling/betting analogy. I prefer to not think of things in my work as such wild gambles.

    I am a big fan of PI normally. But saying there “is no excuse” means you don’t understand how software works. The firms that get v1 perfect before release never get see funding to make v2. funds through and legal arbitrage.

    While Zoom said they were not ready for the massive adoption they received, this is no excuse for a business oriented software 👎 Privacy and security should be top priorities for any software claiming a business audience

    I don't want 24-hour conferences. I don't want 12 tracks conferences. And I absolutely don't want half-assed talks. I want single track conferences with well rehearsed 20min talks that focus on real issues, provide real insight, and propose realistic solutions.

    It’s frustrating how the ideas of 6 feet apart or less than 10 people or whatever point of reference is being cited have become these default “best practices” that people use to justify actions. These “rule-suggestions” have separated practice from the bigger picture.

    Imagine someone fucked up so badly at work, 10,000 people died & they almost died themselves from their own carelessness. Now imagine they were greeted as a hero for surviving & the dead were barely mentioned. That's where we're at, right now.

    Get off my lawn too. And learn to use a command line. And put more than one window visible on your screen. It’s Microsoft “WindowS” not “Window”. And learn to touch type.

    The TRS-80 launched in 1977. Why do I care? I’m tired of all of the stupid takes that people over 50 aren’t computer literate. We are very computer literate. We learned on systems like this and systems w MS-DOS command prompts. We didn’t have cute little icons to do everything.

    Yep. Guiding light during the pandemic. Moral compass for a nation in a time of crisis. The president? Ha! No. A frozen meat company with a very relatable and intelligent human at the helm of its social media presence.

    just gonna come out and say it: vulnerable people are always the most susceptible to propaganda, misinformation, and conspiracy, especially in times of cultural anxiety, and if there is a way to help them out of these traps, targeted self-righteous vilification isn’t it

    Or we could have a competent federal government. This headline is the equivalent of the "look how this community chipped in to cover this child's cancer treatment" headlines that pop up. Sure that's nice of them, human of them, but what if they didn't need to do that?

    Led by its chapter in China, Columbia's medical school alumni association raised over $1 million to buy PPE for medical workers in New York. At least 11,000 N95 masks have already been purchased.
