    This 1942 letter to artist Trude Guermonprez is from her dog Mavis, and now in our . The letter (dictated to the artist's husband) is mostly the phrase “woef, woef”—or, loosely translated from Dutch, "woof, woof.” 14/10 for great penmanship.

    Today we remember the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. This clock was knocked to the ground when a plane was crashed into the Pentagon, its hands frozen at the moment of impact. The plane struck at 9:38 a.m. Apparently the clock—now in our —was six minutes slow.
