Leann Rimes was in Australia in 04 as part of the "Twisted Angel" World Tour performing songs including the Gyan song "Love is an Army" which she regularly introduced as her favorite. Here's a quote of Leanne from the Curb Records site :

"Love Is an Army" (Gyan Evans): Of all the songs I have recorded in my career, this is my favorite. It's so beautiful and emotional that you really have to feel it to sing it; you can't just go through the motions. I think the meaning of this song is open for everyone's interpretation, but for me it's about the fighting she's done for love and how in the end, love conquers all. The song is so natural, so simple. Basically, it's just my voice and strings. This song has some country elements in it, like my yodel at the end, but I wouldn't consider it a country song."

In a time when so much of women’s music is focused on low-cut pants, exposed midriffs and high profile boyfriends you met in detox, Aussie born international singer songwriter Gyan dances to her own beat.
There is something of a poet in Gyan, who’s litany of lonely girl gets a little lost lyrics echo her love of language and ee cummings inspirations.

The street press has compared her voice to Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos. Gyan infuses her song with a melancholy passion. There is something powerful yet waif like about Gyan, like she was the Bronte sister given healthy lungs. Like most artists starting out in the late 80s Gyan gigged around Sydney with her highly original band Haiku. After some success Gyan cut the safety ropes and decided to go solo.

Her first step was to enter the television show called ‘Starsearch’ one of the most credible and lucrative talent shows ever staged in Australia. The wide eyed girl from Geelong went onto to win the grand final and with her substantial winnings Gyan bought her first home recording studio and put aside the next 12 months to hone her writing skills. When ready she met Charles Fisher, Producer for Midnight Oil. Hoodoo Gurus and most recently Savage Garden.

From that meeting in 1990 came her first contract and her debut album, ’Gyan’. Her 12 months gestation proved fruitful for the first album went on to win a platinum award, an ARIA award and her first single ‘Wait’ achieved the status of being one of the most played singles of that year. It still is the ultimate anthem for the lonely girl!

In 1993 she released ‘Reddest Red’’ which received critical acclaim and led to another 2 years solid touring in Oz. In 1995 she left Australia to relocate to London, where she emerged from the acoustic underground to be wooed to the U.S. by Desmond Child, world renowned producer of Ricky Martin, Aerosmith, Cher…

Gyan signed to Universal and wrote and recorded the album Suburban Opera with string arranger David Campbell (Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Beck, Hole), Kenny Arnoff (Smashing Pumpkins), Raul Marlow (Mavericks), Jon Bon Jovi in studios from Bearsville NY to Abbey Rd. UK. During this time she was also a vocalist for Ricky Martin and appears on his multi platinum self titled album and Sound Loaded.
LeAnn Rimes covered Gyan’s Love is an Army on the Twisted Angel album and performed the track live, televised nationally at the American, Country Music Awards. LeAnn is quoted ‘of all the songs I’ve ever recorded this is my favourite.’

Gyan now resides back in Australia where she has just completed a new album collaborating with one of her mentors, Michael Leunig. This album is intended for release July 10 2006. Gyan is currently working on a new solo album, a poetry book and other visual art.
